All SEO Professionals Need Life Coaching. Seriously.

If there is one thing life coaches know it is how to get back up and try again.

With SEO you are going to need to do the same thing.

A great way to look at a blog post is like a lottery ticket, well not quite, more like a ticket at the 50/50 raffle at your kids high school football game. You might win. You more than likely won’t, but if you stop trying your chances are totally zero.

But there is even more good news! SEO isn’t a zero sum game. There can be a few winners.

Most people look at 3 life coaches before deciding which life coach to hire

Why do they look at 3 before choosing a coach?

Because that is the standard number of quotes before making a decision in most industries. This balances the time and choice factor.

Before getting quotes a potential customer will normally binge read the content on your website as well.

This is why the following lessons I have learned will help you in your life coaching business in your approach to SEO

Stop looking at failure as failure and focus on success

When you first start with SEO it is ok to produce a wide variety of content.

You will just need to write and write without worrying about anything else.

At the early stages please don’t focus on all the fancy SEO tools.

Those tools will cost you a few hundred dollars a month. Instead just keep writing.

Keep updating your blog and then look at what is working. Once you see what is working you can promote it in other places or repurpose the content.

Google loves YouTube videos

Make a video from your content or share it on social media, on your email list and with your network.

The real truth is that it is hard to predict what will be successful until you start writing. I know many marketers that have spent 6 months of hard earned cash as a tool but still aren’t producing content that is doing anything to help their business.

Just like life coaching you need to have some type of plan or strategy for your SEO

When you first start your blog for your life coaching business you ned to have a plan.

Ask yourself questions about who you really are at the core.

When are you in your zone of excellence. You really have a few choices.

One is to be broad and go big and the other it to hone in on what makes you special and “niche” down so to speak.

Here is a great way to figure out the answer to going boad vs niche:

  1. How much competition for life coaches (hint :( it is very high competition)

  2. How good at you you at closing deals? Are you absolutely best in class?

  3. How much time/money do you have? Really building content is going to take $$$

If you are the best of the best life coaches, let’s be frank you probably aren’t reading this blog and you probably don’t have the capital behind you, which means you need to be niche.

That does not mean you are only stuck being idk: ‘the life coach to people with 50 cats’ - nothing against the cat lovers out there.

What I mean is if you chose a niche, you can certainly go beyond the niche but it is better to start your SEO strategy out small.

When you start to get a high volume of SEO traffic it isn’t actually from keywords

When we start getting really high traffic from blog posts it is not from keywords. It is because our content was so high quality and so good that a few things happened:

  1. The content was linked to by other websites

  2. Your content was found by someone and so good that it was shared on social media

So if you lead by giving the best possible information you can, just like you do in your life coaching business - your SEO will naturally get better and improve and bring more eyes to your business.

Know and speak to your audience

Remember in the paragraph above when I covered really knowing your niche or considering picking a niche. Speak to your audience.

I am actually a marketer, a digital marketer not a traditional marketer. And my language is very unique. For example if I see certain words - I won’t work with a company - full stop.

I also love funny writing that is casual and contains jargon - but unfortunately that can be really off putting to certain communities and target markets.

You want to resonate with your niche and really get to know them so you don’t find yourself getting SEO traffic just to have people leave your website immediately or see you as someone unprofessional.

The fact still remains, making the content working on your blog - it took time so you want to make use of the traffic you get in a way that is helpful to your business goals.

Make you writing work for you

I mentioned this earlier, when I talked about looking at what is working and then repurposing that content but this really comes from an approach of using each piece you write as a way to platform further and grow.

What you wrote can be outlined or incorporated in to sales materials, used as an email or sent to a client to answer a question - and really there is no better way to be building your blog.

If you write every single post with a person in mind and speak to them and answer their questions this right here is SEO.

In fact this is such a big part of SEO that there is a tool called: Answer The Public which is built to discover exactly what the public is asking and used for seo content creation.

Now go write some great life advice - the internet needs you!

Well that is all for today. As always I hope this content was helpful and encourages you to start really exploring and leveraging SEO for your life coaching business.
