Is Wordpress Better Than Squarespace For SEO

Yes, Wordpress is better for SEO than Squarespace. Here are 7 reasons why:

  1. Wordpress was designed around blogging and the platform is way more flexible in terms of plugins and categories and thematically organizing your blog content and website

  2. Squarespace is known for being slow and site load time is an important factor in SEO

  3. SEO writing is now focused on building blocks and writing scannable content. That is extremely hard to do in Squarespace because the editor allows for text only vs Wordpress which allows for adding content blocks

  4. Hotlinks or jump links - seo writing needs to be navigational, meaning people need to be able to click on your content, do a quick scan and find what they want and need, adding jump links is one way to do that.

  5. Adding images/infographics and videos in posts increases engagement and with the Squarespace editor that can’t be done.

  6. Interactive tools are another way to impact SEO and this can’t be done inside a Squarespace post

  7. The backend part of Squarespace is closed off and a black box

But, this doesn’t mean that you should switch your website. Here is what to do instead.

  1. Focus on what you can control which is:

    • Good content

    • Backlinks which is a huge factor in SEO in 2023

    • Creating additional pages instead of blog posts - pages in Squarespace have more functionality

  2. Create multiple websites with different domains

There is debate in the industry if this is a good idea. However, while some would argue that maintaining multiple websites is too much effort. Google really has no way to determine if the same company owns multiple websites. Also think about when companies aquire companies. They maintain different websites all the time. I personally have 3 different websites that all serve different purposes. This helps users become less confused and I can speak to each audience vs confusing my target market for each company.

  3. Continue to look at the end goal

While I have this website and blog here that only uses SEO as the tactic and only focuses on SEO for coaches this is not the entirety of my marketing strategy. I make the case on this blog that SEO can be your only strategy but that is uncommon for month businesses. You can also leverage social media, in person networking and word of mouth to grow your business.

Final Recommendation: Stick with whatever will allow you to run your coaching business the most efficiently and effectively

All things considered you need to do what you can handle.

Wordpress is has a much higher learning curve which is why I have 2 of my websites on Squarespace and my blog and creative outlet on Wordpress.

Remember. You are running a business and the tools that you can use to put in systems and processes to free up your time are going to be the best solution always.
