Table of Contents (quick links)
Are you looking to get more coaching leads?
Lead generation for coaches can be tiresome. You need to get more coaching client and book more coaching calls but it takes 1000 cold emails to book one call.
Buying Google Ads is an option but that is expensive.
So how do you get on the search engine results pages and simply show your website when people are searching?
I am going to tell you how to get more website visitors in this post. Blogging and SEO will reach your target market when they are searching and raise brand awareness for your coaching business.
Search engine optimization takes time
Search engine optimization take time. SEO can take up to a year.
And it takes a year if you are consistently pushing out high quality content.
I don’t want this to statistic to frustrate you. But, I know it will. I still think it is fair for me to state the facts.
Building your coaching business with SEO will take time. You will want to quit. You will have days you don’t want to write. But you can do it.
SEO industry data
Here are a few other well known SEO industry leaders that agree.
The Semrush blog sites a Google video and says right SEO typically takes 4-12 months to work.
Ahrefs did a poll of +4,300 of twitter who said SEO typically takes 3-6 months to show results.
and lastly Search Engine Journal backed up the Semrush blog post with another article stating the 4-12 months data point.
The hard truth about growing your coaching business
Growing your coaching business takes focus. As a business owner myself I totally understand how easy it is to lose focus.
We lose focus because growing a business is HARD, and our mind finds ways to play tricks on us.
The mind plays these tricks to keep us safe. It is evolutionary.
Add to that doing the same thing every single day and not seeing results feels insane.
It truly does.
I just listened to a podcast today that talked about the fact that as an entrepreneur you need to be “a little delusional”.
If you don’t believe me here is an article on Fortune from 2013.
In the article, they discussed the chances of failing and how students don't understand how much selling they must do to be successful.
But SEO takes away part of the selling for you!
Search engines are large databases on information, and…
YOU HAVE THE INFORMATION
In fact most of you tell me that you would scream the information from the rooftops if you could.
Search engine optimization allows for that. You are taking your expertise as a coach and putting it in front of people exactly when they are looking for information.
So how do you take a simple blog post and turn it into content that will sell your coaching services?
You can include calls to action by creating internal linking to your products and services. You can add calls to action on the web page. You can also use target search term that has buying intent such as: 'find a coach near me'.
You can also allow blog post to work harder for you by turning them into email marketing campaigns.
Focusing on content creation for your coaching business requires a shift
It requires doing small tasks every single day, and planting seeds with your writing.
You need to get comfortable with feeling like nothing is happening .
It might make you feel unsafe and vulnerable.
This is the exact reason why we lose focus.
SEO can be complex and technical. If you don't have a deep understanding it can feel overwhelming o keep up with the SEO strategies.
Technical SEO can also be overwhelming and using an SEO tool may not be in the budget. You will also need to be writing at least 1 guest post a month to consistently link build.
So how exactly do we maintain focus on our coaching and grow business and leads?
Chose one niche of content and write about it so many times you become known for this one specific thing
In search engine optimization we call this building authority.
Website authority is a SEO term that focuses on the strenth of a domain. For example: I am trying to write content around: SEO for coaches.
I am not writing about SEO in general. That is too crowded and there is too much competition.
Instead every single post I write on this blog focuses on the coaching community.
And how do I know without a shadow of a doubt that this works? Because I can see the data on my blog and in the number of leads that I get daily. But this took time and focus.
Answer 1 coaching question a day
I made a promise to post on this blog every single day no matter what.
Keeping promises to myself is one way I was able to build search engine rankings quickly. Answering people questions can also help build relationships. Writing behind a computer screen is lonely but relationships and trust is what leads to sales.
I do this rain, shine, holiday or not. I just do it.
My posts are short relatively speaking but I do them.
I believe this small action every day has led to my success.
I can link this action to both my website traffic and the increase in leads for my business.
Once I started posting every single day the leads started coming in.
Know your why
I got into my business to help people but to be fully transparent. I want to work less.
I want time with my kids & money.
I want to build something for myself.
These answers are the foundation of my focus.
Most coaches know their why deeply
I think this is part of why I enjoy working on SEO in the coaching niche. Coaches have direction, coaches know their purpose.
All I do is channel that into website writing.
But knowing your why and reminding yourself of your why when it feels like you are writing into the void is what is going to help you maintain focus on the hard days.
When in doubt keep sharing your knowledge
You are a coach and the entire process of coaching goes hand and hand with search engine optimization. As a coach your primary goal is to positively impact as many lives as possible.
Your ability to create content people can find which is the heart of SEO. This is also critical if you want to grow your business and continue coaching clients.
At its most basic level, search engine optimization involves creating high-quality, findable content.
High quality content is the cornerstone of effective SEO. The saying is "content is king". If your content provides real value to your audience, this will be impactful to your business.
SEO content on blogs can take different forms. Blog posts, videos, and even podcast can be added to your website. For instance, as a life coach your content might focus on personal development, goal setting or time management. You might also want to write about overcoming life's challenges.
If you are a fitness coach you can write blogs about workout tips, nutrition advice or even ways to say motivated.
I hope this helps you and other coaches grow your business and get more leads using SEO tactics.
