Can I Do SEO Myself?

Yes, as a business owner and coach you can do SEO yourself.

While SEO sounds complex and there are many strategies and tools available that can help you improve your SEO. As a coach your website visibility and ranking in search engines starts with the content you create.

Here are some key concepts in order to give yourself a good head start and elevate your coaching business.

Understand the Basics of SEO:

Familiarize yourself with the fundamentals of SEO, including how search engines work, what they value, and the difference between on-page, off-page, and technical SEO.

  1. Keyword Research: Identify keywords that are relevant to your business and that your target audience is searching for. Tools like Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, or Ahrefs can help you find these keywords. You can also apply what you already know as a coach by simply answering the questions that you are being asked by your clients.

  2. Optimize Your Website Content: Ensure your website's content is high-quality, relevant, and includes the keywords you're targeting. This includes optimizing your headlines, meta descriptions, and body content. This involves filling out many of the fields you are seeing on the back end of your website by including keywords and categories relevant to the topics you are writing about on your blog.

  3. Improve Website User Experience: Search engines favor websites that provide a good user experience. This includes having a mobile-friendly design, fast loading times, and intuitive navigation. This is the technical part of SEO and this involves using images that are not too large and leveraging systems so your website loads quickly and can be navigated by both the humans and spiders (what the search engine uses to crawl website).

  4. Create Quality Content Regularly: Regularly publish valuable and relevant content. This could be blog posts, videos, infographics, or podcasts that engage your audience and keep them coming back. I talk about this concept often on here and posted about blogging everyday about your coaching business in this post right here.

  5. Build Backlinks: Backlinks from reputable websites can significantly boost your SEO. Focus on creating shareable content and consider reaching out to industry influencers or guest blogging on relevant sites. Backlinks are like votes for your business and there are many ways to build backlinks including, asking for links, guest posting and building linkable content on your blog.

  6. Utilize Social Media: While social media doesn't directly impact SEO rankings, it can increase your content's visibility, leading to more traffic and potentially more backlinks. You will often here this called: social signals and these factors are considered when it comes getting your site to rank in Google.

  7. Monitor Your Progress: Use tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console to track your website's performance. Look at metrics like organic traffic, bounce rate, and conversion rate to understand how well your SEO efforts are working. This can be helpful to get an understanding about what is working and what is not, and when you see content that is working continue to post more about that content. This is often called a spoke and wheel strategy when it comes to content strategy, but it is all centered around continuously monitoring your campaigns.

  8. Stay Updated with SEO Trends: SEO is an ever-evolving field. Stay informed about the latest trends and algorithm updates by following SEO blogs, podcasts, or webinars. It can be largely helpful to stay up to date on SEO trends. For example generative content is a new concept to consider when it comes to content as well as everything that is going on with AI.

  9. Be Patient and Persistent: SEO is a long-term strategy. It takes time to see results, so be patient and consistently apply best practices. Being patient is probably one of the most important characteristics of solid SEO strategy. In fact, I have a separate website I am running right now that is yet to be fully indexed by Google.

Remember, while you can do SEO on your own, it requires time and effort to learn and implement effectively. If you find it overwhelming, consider hiring an SEO professional or agency to assist you.
